Shockingly the product I speak of doesn’t have an AT&T or Apple logo on it. What I speak of is the launch of the T-Mobile @Home service that combines the use of standard GSM service with WiFi calling and all from the comfort of your own home. This might not be the product everyone is waiting for but for the people that lose signal in their houses, apartment, or dorm room this is a godsend. The service itself is pretty simple if you have the following:

* Existing high-speed Internet connection
* Wireless router
* T-Mobile HotSpot Phone

The calls transfer from Wi-Fi to GSM and vice versa seamlessly, this technological hand off is the reason this service was delayed for some time. But all the delays are forgotten as I am one of the many that have a GSM service that tends to have problems indoors. This particularly effects the back of the house where the bars flicker in defiance of my pleads to the cell phone gods.

The phones at launch will be:

Samsung t409          Samsung t709

Nokia 6086               Nokia 6136

T-Mobile is also selling two routers by both D-Link & Linksys, even though T-Mobile might suggest one of their routers, it isn’t necessary as your existing router will most likely work just fine. The service costs $19.99 a month on top of your regular cell plan and at least a US $39.99 plan is needed but consider that you will never have to pay long distance again and your home phone will become obsolete.

The feature that stands out is the fact that not just your voice features work off your WiFi but all your other features as well, however only the calls are unlimited. This is truly a breakthrough service that can help just about anyone who lives in a suspect coverage area, not even the all powerful Jesus Phone can make this claim.
